This article aims to expose and examine the dialectical-materialist concept of information elaborated by the Brazilian philosopher Álvaro Vieira Pinto in relation to theories and authors who developed the theory of information and cybernetics in the 1950s and 1970s, when Vieira Pinto developed his thought. The basic source is the second volume of his posthumously published treatise, The concept of technology. The article aims, firstly, to draw attention to the extreme originality, even in the Marxist field, of Vieira Pinto's dialectical approach to information. Secondly, in the conclusions, he draws attention to the importance of his ideas being incorporated into the current theoretical and political agenda, considering the characteristics of contemporary information capital.
