From the violent invasion, dated January 8, 2023, of anti-democratic protesters in public buildings, which had prior arrangement on social media, and promoted depredations and violations of national heritage, such as those that occurred at the headquarters of the Federal Supreme Court (STF ), this work focuses on the concepts of neofascism and fake news, in order to analyze the compatibility and applicability of these theoretical areas with the practice of acts that occurred in Brasília. To this end, from a conceptual perspective, bibliographic analysis will be used with two main themes: “fascism” and “fake news”. In relation to the fascist theme, the thoughts of, among others, Bezerra (2020), Eco (2021), Finchelstein (2020), Ianni (1998), Pashukanis (2020), Traverso (2021), Trevisan (2020), while for fake news, the writings of authors such as Forster et al. (2021), Mello (2020), Raquel et al. (2022) Recondo and Weber (2023). The textual organization will be divided into three chapters: in the first, fascism and its current derivations are conceptually explained; then, reflections on the instrumentalization of hate through fake news are brought up; and in the third, the shock to the democratic order resulting from the criminal demonstrations in the federal capital. It is understood that curbing the spread of fake news can be an important initial step in combating extremism proposed by fascist ideologies that intend to abolish the maintenance of the Democratic Rule of Law.
