The objective of this paper is to analyze the evolution of the demographic tran- sition and to assess the occurrence of the window of opportunity, with the aim of contributing to the formulation of public policies, particularly in the are- as of education, health, and social protection. The data span a 60-year period from 1960 to 2020. The method used to analyze the demographic transition and identify the demographic bonus follows the approach proposed by Ralph Hakkert and José Eustáquio Diniz Alves. The results indicate that Brazil is cur- rently in the third phase of the demographic transition, characterized by the presence of a demographic bonus — that is, a majority of the population being of working age.
