Populism

Notes for a critical approach

Keywords: political theory, populism, liberal democracy, politicism

Abstract

In the last decade, due to some political events and the rise of leaders who question and jeopardize the liberal democratic regimes in peripheral and central countries, the use of the term populism has returned in scientific literature and in the press. Through the contextualization and exposition of some ideas from some of the most cited books and articles at an international level, an analysis is carried out emphasizing the politicism, formalism and the ideal-typical arbitrariness that characterize them. Thus, the aim of this work is to identify the social bonds and the ideological function performed by them, especially the apology of the liberal democracy and the corresponding naturalization of the social order.
